Iconic, polished, complete.
The Hiatus Collection represents reflection and exploration. After two consecutive winters of extreme cold damaged many of Black Hill's estate vineyard blocks, they made the decision to accelerate their long-term replanting plans. While their young vines take root, they ventured south to explore new growing regions and source from exceptional vineyards. Throughout this transition, we remain focused on producing wines that reflect our philosophy of care and precision. The name Hiatus captures this chapter: a pause with purpose.
Preceding the harsh winter of 2024 in the Okanagan Valley, the winery sourced fruit from the The Rocks District AVA on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley for this wine. It is 43% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc; it spent 18 months in French oak (44% new).
The 2024 Nota Bene opens with aromas of cherry clafoutis and cassis then slides into tobacco, graphite, leather, plums, chocolate wafers, brown spice and coffee. The palate is as elegant as the nose; fresh and harmonious it delivers supple, polished tannins. Cocoa, spice, dark fruit and leather flavours line the palate. It's balanced, precise and delicious--the whole package.
